Best Fun Packs and Expansions in Lego Dimensions

Make sure you go to Springfield, Back to the Future and Jurassic World.

Lego Dimensions is available now, and it’s easily one of the best interactive toy games on the market. Between a cool story that sets up incredible circumstances (like Batman running wild in his Batmobile through the kingdom of Oz) to collecting Lego bits, this game appeals to all ages.

With that, the Starter Pack comes with three characters and worlds based on DC’s comic universe, The Lego Movie and The Lord of the Rings. However, there’s plenty of room to expand with the many play sets and fun packs sold separately, many of which you’ll see in this feature. There are more coming over the next few months, including wonderful sets based on Ghostbusters, Doctor Who and Midway’s classic arcade games, complete with 20 old-school titles to choose from.

Which sets should you buy first? We have a few recommendations that will expand your Lego Dimensions experience.

Back to the Future Level Pack

Great Scott! Just in time for the film’s 30th anniversary, WB Games released an expansion level based on Back to the Future, where Marty McFly ends up going back in time and has to rely on a younger Doc Brown for help. Featuring a fun set of missions that will take a little while to get through, as well as an open Hill Valley play set to mess around in, this Level Pack has plenty to offer. For good measure, both Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd reprise the roles that made the classic film so irresistible.

Portal Level Pack

We haven’t seen a new Portal game in quite a few years now, so seeing its return as a Lego Dimensions level is a welcome sight. Similar to previously released games, the Portal stage features a number of unique puzzles that you’ll be able to solve with Chell (or other characters in the game), all while GLADos eggs you on with a number of humorous comments. On top of that, Stephen Merchant reprises his role as the clumsy robot Wheatley, accompanying you at every turn and promising to mess things up. You can’t go wrong with this duo.

Scooby Doo Team Pack

Even though this pack is just a Team Pack that doesn’t offer any particular missions, Scooby-Doo!’s world is certainly not one to miss. His open world environment is worth playing around in, and evokes memories of the classic TV series many of us grew up with. Plus, Scooby is a delight, hopping on a vehicle and covering his eyes as it motors around. Shaggy provides plenty of fun too, and it never hurts to take the Mystery Machine for a spin. When it comes to the mystery of whether you should buy this set, consider it solved!

The Simpsons Level Pack

Considering The Simpsons walked into the Lego world last year with a special episode, it seems only proper we get to see them involved with Lego Dimensions. This level pack includes Homer Simpson – complete with a can of Buzz cola – as well as the Simpsons family mobile and a TV set. It enables you to take on a number of missions with Homer, as well as open up a new side of Springfield with many items to interact with. There’s also a Fun Pack (sold separately) that enables you to throw Bart Simpson into the mix, skateboard and all. When it comes to hours of Simpsons-based fun, these packs are worth the “D’oh!”

Lego Jurassic World Team Pack

Even though a game with the same name released earlier this year, the Lego Jurassic World component of Dimensions is worth checking out, especially if you’re a fan of the film. This Team Pack comes with four different figures, including Chris Pratt’s character, Owen (a technician), a Lego raptor and a special vehicle taken straight from the park. Once you have this set, you’ll be able to open up Jurassic World as your own, interacting with a number of items and running wild. If the original release didn’t provide enough dino thrills, this set will certainly suffice.
