Use the Force with these Lego Star Wars tips!

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is available now, and it’s a faithful recreation of the hit movie, with a few bonus goodies thrown in for good measure. As you dive into this galaxy, though, it helps to keep some things in mind – so here are some Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens beginner’s tips to get started.

The Multi-Build System in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

As with previous games in the Lego series, you can build items that will help you beat the game, including ladders, vehicles and other things to earn bonuses and move further into the level. However, with Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it’s a little different, as you can now multi-build.

You can still build items, but now you can hold a direction on the analog stick to make different things in certain situations. For instance, in one of the starting levels with Poe Dameron, you’ll need to put together a generator to push water into a tank; then make a secondary unit for BB-8 to move the water to a nearby cannon; and then finally complete building the cannon itself so you can put out a nearby fire.

It’s an easy system to use, however, and one that is built on experimentation. Again, it’s just a matter of holding the direction of the item you want to build, along with the circle or B button (depending on the platform) and you’ll complete it. If you did something wrong, you can simply break the item and create something new from its rubble – there is no answer that will leave you stuck.

You’ll be able to work with this system in the early running and see how it applies later on with certain puzzles. Don’t get frustrated by it, as building a new item only takes a few extra seconds. You can also earn a few bits for good measure, and work your way towards True Jedi ranking in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Speaking of which…

Collecting Bits in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Bits are little mutli-colored pieces that appear throughout the world, ranging from silver (worth 10) to gold (worth 100) to blue (worth 1,000) to purple (worth 10,000). As you might figure out, blue and purple bits are the more rare ones available, so when you find them, you should make every effort to pick them up.

Every piece of bits you pick up in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens adds to a meter at the top center of the screen. It fills up over time, with each new set of bits you pick up. Once it fills up completely, you’ll earn the ranking of True Jedi, which in turn will earn you an additional Gold Brick once the stage is complete. You’ll get one automatically by completing the stage, but collecting a lot of bits (along with other goodies like Minkits and Red Bricks, which we’ll get to in a moment) will add up to even more for your arsenal, and unlock more cool characters and vehicles for you in the long run. (Plus, 100 percent game completion – let’s not forget about that.)

There are already a lot of bits to collect, but you’ll want to get more. Try completing secondary tasks in the stage, like flipping switches and breaking objects, like storage containers and even characters like droids. By doing so, more bits will pour out, and you’ll have several seconds to pick them all up before they eventually vanish. The more bits you collect, the closer you get to True Jedi ranking.

Collecting bits can be a little tedious at times – especially if you’ve got enemies like Stormtroopers shooting at you – but they’re worth it in the end as you stack up those Gold bricks and get more cool stuff in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Finding Other Collectibles in Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Along with bits, there are other hidden goodies strewn throughout the game world. The first are Minikits, staples from previous Lego games that look like weird power converters. Each stage has about ten of these, and some of them aren’t so easy to find.

The key here is to look for out-of-reach places in some stages. For instance, while Poe is fighting off enemy Stormtroopers within a drop ship, he can actually go inside the ship (this is midway through the stage before reaching his ally, being held by other Stormtroopers) and collect a minikit in there. Sometimes you have to dig a little bit or build something extra (like with the Multi-Build set-up) to access these goodies, but getting all ten will help you earn even more Gold bricks and, thus, more exclusive items.

There are also Red Bricks. These are items that you can purchase throughout the game. The first one is given to you on the house as you start up the game, but you can buy them at any time, either by checking out the Character Wheel (the Red Brick is in the lower left corner) or paying a visit to D’Qar in the shop. By buying these, you’ll unlock new cheats for the game.
