Madden NFL 25 – How to Choose a Playbook

Choose the right playbook for you and learn to dominate on the gridiron!

No matter which team you choose to play with in Madden NFL 25, you can always choose any playbook that you like. This is one of the most overlooked strategies by new players. We always recommend picking a specific playbook before heading into a game, rather than waiting to see what plays your default team playbook contains. Once you start to develop some familiarity with one playbook, it will be a breeze to not only play with new teams, but also to explore new playbooks and carry over the concepts you have learned. By consistently using the same playbook, you can learn your reads and eliminate the calling of random plays. (When you’re ready, get more Madden NFL 25 strategies!)

5 FIND A STYLE

Choose a Playbook

BE SURE TO EXPLORE ALL THE NEW OPTION-STYLE PLAYS IN MADDEN NFL THIS SEASON.

Are you the type of player who likes to spread out your offense and pass every down? Or now that you have read all about the new run controls and tips, are you going to try a ground-and-pound approach? There are multiple ways to be successful in the game, but you have to commit to one and try it out. Depending on the strengths of your team, you must choose a playbook that fits your talents and the scheme you want to run. It doesn’t make sense to take a pocket passer with no speed and run the Pistol playbook, which contains option runs with the QB!

4 TEST IT OUT

Choose a Playbook

IF YOU EVER END UP IN A GAME WITHOUT YOUR FAVORITE PLAYBOOK, LOOK FOR SIMILAR FORMATIONS AND CONCEPTS TO WORK WITH!

Once you have figured out the strength of your team and what style of offense you want to run, take your playbook into practice mode. Practice mode will help you start to learn the timing of certain plays and find out what routes are effective for beating certain coverages. You should run through your “5 Sets for Success” and learn how all the plays work together. Most mistakes happen during games when players simply call random plays they have never worked on before and expect them to work. Every team in the NFL practices their playbook all off-season to be ready for their first game, and you should too!

3 CREATE A MINI SCHEME

Choose a Playbook

WORK ON FINDING PLAYS THAT LOOK SIMILAR TO THE DEFENSE BUT ATTACK DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE FIELD.

A mini scheme is a small group of plays out of one formation that you save for later in the game. If you need a quick drive at the end of the half, you can go to your mini scheme and give the defense a look they have never seen before. Some playbooks feature overlap of formations, so if you find a few formations from different books, look around and see if there is one that contains all of them! A good example is a formation like Singleback Bunch. You can have a Four Verticals play that attacks downfield with a Y Trail play that attacks underneath. Mix this in with a draw from the formation and you have three different plays from one formation that can be mixed up quickly and effectively. Having a solid mini scheme will give you confidence on drives at the end of the game and in the red zone!

2 GO CUSTOM

Choose a Playbook

DON’T ADD RANDOM PLAYS TO FILL UP A CUSTOM PLAYBOOK—LESS IS MORE!

Once you start to get some familiarity with multiple playbooks, you can take the best of what you’ve found and make a custom playbook. This is a solid feature that the hard-core fans of Madden NFL utilize to really give their playbook a feel of its own. You can take out those formations that you never use to make it cleaner and add any new formations you find effective. This is something you can constantly tweak during the season and that can even fit multiple styles of play. Don’t think custom playbooks aren’t for newer players or you will be stunting your growth! 1 SET YOUR AUDIBLES

Choose a Playbook

TESTING OUT YOUR QUICK AUDIBLES (QUICK PASS, PLAY-ACTION PASS, DEEP PASS, RUN) IS A GOOD IDEA AND GIVES YOU MORE OPTIONS AT THE LINE!

When you choose a playbook or build a custom book, make sure to set and save your audibles. With the brand-new deeper system in Madden NFL 25, setting up your audibles is very important. Learning how to get to multiple formations quickly through the use of personnel audibles will put stress on your opponent to make adjustments. Now, when you finally get into a game, you will have the perfect play call ready to beat the defense!
