Microsoft smartly combined its Halo franchise with Mojang's Minecraft. We're surprised it took this long, but there's no need to argue about why Master Chief arrived so much later than the popular Mass Effect pack that debuted last year. The video game icon is finally here, and you can download the Minecraft: Halo Edition right now, providing you already have the Xbox 360 version of the popular world-building game.

The Halo Mash-Up pack includes a variety of favorite characters and places from the Halo universe, in addition to various parts that'll help you build your own Halo-themed levels.

For starters, you'll receive 40 character skins. Master Chief and his AI sidekick Cortana made the cut as expected, but you'll also find Sergeant Johnson, the Arbiter and plenty more.

Even cooler are the pre-made worlds you can explore, pulled from the Halo universe. Locations include the Silent Cartographer, Valhalla, Sandtrap, Blackout, Guardian and Blood Gulch. In addition, the pack comes with vehicles from the franchise, along with craftable weapons like the Covenant Energy Sword.

Similar to Mass Effect for Minecraft, the downloadable content features signature music, this time from the Halo video games, 31 tracks to be exact. Finally, there's a texture set, themed menus and a slick user interface.
