Mordhau: A Beginner’s Guide

If you're new to this exciting multiplayer action game then you're going to want to go in with these tips.

Mordhau is absolutely brutal and, as is the way with most multiplayer games, the learning curve is pretty much non-existent because other players don’t necessarily want to help you get better – they want to kill you. So, starting off with this medieval action game can be incredibly daunting. It doesn’t have to be though, if you follow along with these Modrahu beginner tips then you’re sure to pick the game up a bit faster.

Finish the Tutorial

This one seems obvious, but it is really important. It will run you through most of what you need in order to understand the game itself. Not only will you get to learn how to actually play the game, but you’ll get given 2,500 gold for your troubles. Gold is important in this game because it lets you build your own class and give them good equipment.

Mess Around With the Prebuilt Classes

There are a lot of different things to mess around with in Mordhau, choosing your class is just one of them. Ultimately, you want to build your own class once you know what you’re doing and what playstyle you want to have. In the beginning, though, you should try out the default classes in order to get a proper feel for the different equipment. It just means you can approach the character creation with a bit more knowledge on your side, which is always a good thing.

Kick Down the Door

Rather than entering a room politely, it is better to kick the door in. The reason is, it knocks down anyone on the other side of it and allows for a couple of key moments where you can hit a defenceless opponent. This is the kind of thing you need to be aware of too, so don’t spend too much time near doors waiting to ambush someone or you’ll likely be on the receiving end of this.

Physics are Everything

Mordhau uses an incredibly detailed physics system to dictate how the combat works. It means that the game follows a lot of logic that the real world does. In practice, this means that your weapons will get stuck on scenery, so planning your battles is essential. It also means that if someone has a shield on their back that you won’t be able to shoot them there with arrows. Finally, you can throw your weapons for some pretty decent effects, just be aware that they might just pull it out of themselves and throw it back.

Friendly Fire is Always On

Be really careful who you attack as you can damage your allies. This rings especially true when someone is covered in blood, it isn’t always easy to see where their loyalties lie, so be very careful if you aren’t 100% sure. You don’t want to accidentily take out a friend or get fooled by an enemy because you weren’t paying attention.
