When Mortal Kombat X Kombat Pack 2 and Mortal Kombat XL were announced, it was clear that fans would be getting four new characters in the way of Triborg, Bo’ Rai Cho, Alien and Leatherface. However, details about those characters were somewhat scarce until NetherRealm started showcasing them one at a time on various live streams. The biggest surprise was that Triborg is not only Robot Smoke, Sektor and Cyrax, there’s also a fourth, hidden variation that represents Cyber Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat 9. If you want to play as Cyber Sub-Zero we’ve got all the details to unlock him!
Sektor, Cyrax and Robot Smoke make up the three main variations of Triborg. It’s easy to select them by simply selecting the variation of your choice at the character select screen. However, Cyber Sub-Zero Triborg without a variation selected. In order to play as this version of the character (or play as any character without a specific variation) select Triborg, then when it’s time to select your desired variation press Up, Up, Y (Xbox) or Triangle (PS4). Doing this will give you Cyber Sub-Zero (LK-520).
For other characters there really isn’t a good reason to select them without a variation as you miss out on what makes each variation special. However, with Triborg the clever developers at NetherRealm Studios have given players a reason to select him without a variation. Cyber Sub-Zero has his own unique set of special moves similar to his MK9 incarnation.
