GamesCom 2012 has come to a close, and Germany is definitely grateful for the attention that this year’s show has gotten.  More than a quarter of a million people from around the world attended the event, getting a look at the newest games on the market and presentations for upcoming releases that will no doubt intrigue the game industry for the next year.

Even without Nintendo in tow, the show did great numbers, with attendees from 83 different countries and over 5,300 game writers enjoying the festivities.

“The concept of Gamescom has borne fruit: as a leading international trade fair, it presents all types and aspects of games for all platforms,” says Maximilian Schenk, managing director of the German Association for Interactive Entertainment Software. “We would like to thank most sincerely the gamer community, the visitors, exhibitors and partners, the City of Cologne, the State of North Rhine Westphalia, our partner country South Korea and especially Koelnmesse. We can all be very proud of Gamescom 2012 – and we intend to continue in the same vein in 2013.”

Here’s to next year.  Oh, and Germany, we need more beer.
