This No Man’s Sky guide and walkthrough includes everything you need to know about the action-adventure, survival game coming to the PlayStation 4 and PC. No Man’s Sky is set to release for the PlayStation 4 on August 9, 2016, with a PC release following on August 12, 2016. While it’s difficult to provide a complete walkthrough of the game at launch, stay tuned to this page for frequent updates with tips, strategy and other valuable content.

No Man’s Sky includes over 18 quintillion planets that can be explored throughout the universe. The primary goal is to make it to the center of the universe, but players all start at different, random locations. Given the massive size of the game world and the incredibly wide variety of planets, it might be days or even weeks before players start coming across the same planets.

No Man’s Sky Tips

  • Units are the currency of No Man’s Sky. You can earn Units by uploading discoveries at beacons, selling items at trading posts, or taking out pirates.
  • The price for resources and items will vary depending on the star system. A cargo ship can come in handy to hold on to items until you find good prices for them.
  • If you’re the first to discover a planet or species, upload it via a beacon to not only receive in-game currency and be credited as the person who discovered it.
  • You can be attacked by wildlife on some planets, so don’t always assume you’re safe.
  • If you die on a planet, you lose any items or discoveries you made that hadn’t been recorded via a beacon. If you die in space you lose your ship as well as your items and discoveries.
  • Most planets have a day and night cycle. The planet and animal life may be different if you travel to the night side of a planet, giving you more to discover and explore.
  • You can buy new ships at space stations, but you can only have one ship at a time.
  • Pirates can and will attack you while in space, so be ready to defend yourself or flee.
  • If you see cargo ships being attacked by pirates or two factions fighting, help out and you may get help if you’re being attacked later in the game.
  • Mine planets to obtain more resources, but if you mine too much you will draw the attention of the Sentinels.
  • It’s important to mine for hyperdrive fuel, or buy it from space stations. You need this fuel if you want to make long distance jumps between star systems.
  • If you encounter a planet with a toxic atmosphere, you may need to upgrade your suit to survive and explore.
  • Always explore crashed ships or ancient ruins and mine planets you come across. You may discover new technology and resources that you can use to improve your own ship and abilities.
  • The climate of a planet is very similar to how it would be in real life. Planets closer to the sun will be very hot and desolate. Planets very far from the sun will be cold and desolate. Find a planet in the sweet spot and it will be teeming with life and ripe for exploration.
