What Are Steam Launch Options

Steam Launch Options are basically command line commands that force the game to launch with specific parameters. This can be extremely useful for Early Access titles, like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, which are not currently fully optimized for the various system setups available in the world. You can find various types of commands that can force the game to run in a lower DirectX version, or even use more of your CPU’s cores to increase performance.

We’ve already discussed quite a bit about how to increase your FPS in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and the options that we’re going to discuss today, can also be used in conjunction with those changes listed in that guide to increase performance and give you a smoother experience.

How to Use Steam Launch Options

Steam Launch Options can be applied directly from your Steam Library. Launch the Steam Application, navigate to your Library, and then right-click on the game that you want to add options to.

After right-clicking, navigate down to Properties and select it. This will open a new window with several tabs. Don’t worry about the other tabs, instead, focus on the General tab you the window opens on.

Look down in the second section of this window to spot the Set Launch Options button.

If you left-click on this option, a new window will open, which you can write commands into. Once you’ve inputted the command you want to launch the game with, simply press OK to save it, and then close the Properties window.
