Rise of the Tomb Raider is a return to form for Lara Croft. You’ll find sequences that are more akin to a shooter, puzzle solving in tombs, crafting and more. All of this makes for a unique experience that can be difficult for the average player to get through without dying numerous times. We’ve compiled a quick list of beginner’s tips for anyone who may have picked up an Xbox One and Rise of the Tomb Raider over the holiday season.

Loot Everything - In Rise of the Tomb Raider you’ll be moving through the wilderness frequently. During these segments and even when you’re in building, loot everything in sight. Use Survival Instinct frequently to make sure you don’t miss any loot that could be important when you’re in the midst of battle.

Craft Everything - Craft and use looted items as frequently as you can. Lara can only hold a limited quantity of each item, so once you hit the maximum allotment for an item, craft with it so you can continue to loot that item.

Always Look Down - Tombs and even open areas can be laden with traps. If you’re not keeping a close eye on the ground, they can be difficult to spot. Outside it’s important to look down so you can spot hidden loot and locate looting sources without having to activate Survival Instinct all the time.

There’s Always a Path - Generally speaking, if you see a location you can travel to it. If Survival Instinct highlights a section of the floor, there’s usually a way to get under it. In some cases you may not have the tools needed to access every location in the game, but eventually you’ll obtain whatever you need.

Skill Points - Lara gains skill points as she levels up, and she levels up by killing enemies, examining objects, learning languages and discovering new locations. It’s only possible to use skill points at camp fire locations, so stop at every camp fire to create a fast travel point and use skill points.
