Spelunky is by far one of the most critically acclaimed indie rogue-likes out there, and we’ve spent several hundred hours exploring the dark caves and finding jewels along the way. Now, though, Spelunky creator Derek Yu is ready to debut the latest entry in the series, Spelunky 2.

A new trailer for the game shows off quite a bit of what fans can expect when they dive in. Of course, there’s also a lot that’s returning from the original game, and if you’ve never played Spelunky, then you’ve missed out on one of gaming’s most influential platformers and should definitely think about picking it up before the second game releases. You can learn all about the sequel by heading over to the original PlayStation Blog. You can also check out the trailer, which we’ve linked above, to see what the game is all about.

There’s a lot of reasons to be excited about Spelunky 2. Not only does the game appear to be more of what made the original game so great, but you’ll also be able to enjoy online multiplayer with you friends in Spelunky 2, which is a huge step up from the original game’s setup. Along the way you can play characters such as Ana Spelunky, the daughter of the original game’s main character, as well as Roffy D. Sloth, Margaret Tunnel and Colin Northward.

As you can see, it’s a pretty nice list of characters to choose from, and if the trailer is anything to go off of, the game should be as fun as the original, and should offer a similar experience for platformer fans everywhere. On top of the new trailer dropping, players attending PAX West this weekend can look forward to diving in and trying it out for themselves.
