Like the previous Splatoon game, which released for the Nintendo Wii U, Splatoon 2 is a multiplayer game first and foremost. But, for those who want to enjoy the world of the Inklings without diving headfirst into the multiplayer, there is a very nice single player campaign waiting to take you on a trip through the world of the Octarians as you try to save all of the Zapfish that have been taken prisoner. In this article we’ll show you how to start the single player campaign in Splatoon 2, including where to go, and how to find the first few levels.
How to Start the Single Player
Once you arrive in Inkopolis Square, you have quite a bit available to you. For the purpose of this article, though, we’ll be focusing on one thing. Wait for the tutorial to finish, which will show you what each of the buildings in the square are, and then make your way forward and to the left.
You should spot an inkling standing in the back-left corner of the square, holding a green umbrella over their head. Make your way over to this inkling and they’ll turn into a squid, and drop through the grating covering a small manhole. Go ahead and follow them as well.
Heading through the manhole will lead you to Tentakeel Outpost, where you’ll meet someone who may seem familiar to players who enjoyed the first Splatoon game on Nintendo Wii U. We won’t reveal that person’s name here, as we want to keep things free of any possible spoilers, but you’ll know her when you see her.
After a brief bit of conversation, and a short introduction to the plot of the game, you’ll learn that the great Zapfish has once more been taken by the evil Octarians. It’s up to you to save the Zapfish and foil the Octarians’ plans once and for all. This first area has three levels you can enjoy, and we’ll point them out below.
You can find the entrance to the first level just ahead of you, beyond the large incline in the middle of the outpost. Shoot the entrance with your ink to make it appear, and then head inside.
Once the first level is cleared, you can enter the second level by looking for the small square at the back of the area. There should be a ton of grating around it. Use your squid form to move through the grates and then ink the entrance to make it appear.
After finishing level 2, you’ll find the third and final level of this area off to the right of the first level’s entrance. Look for a group of boxes that you can destroy, and then head across the platform that juts out and ink the end to find the final level’s entrance.
That’s everything you need to know to get started in Splatoon 2! Be sure to check out our Splatoon 2 guide for more helpful tips and other articles to assist you in your journey to save the Zapfish and return Inkopolis to its former glory.
