On top of offering collectible box art for Super Mario Odyssey on every package of Super Mario Cereal, Nintendo has also partnered with Kellogg to make each box act as an amiibo accessory, rewarding players with in-game goodies that they can scan into their copies of Super Mario Odyssey. Fans can start picking up the limited edition cereal as early as December 11, when it begins to roll out to supermarkets all across the United States.

According to Brad Schwan, the Senior Director of Morning Foods Marketing, “The package adds value and excitement for fans.” It’s an interesting idea overall, and we’ll be intrigued to see how the general public responds to it. No information has currently been given about how long the cereal will be available, but we do know that players can utilize it just like an amiibo, and receive things like hearts, gold coins, and other specialty items. You can check out some of the box art for the cereal in the image below.

It’s cool to see Nintendo and Kellogg teaming up to bring not only a Mario inspired cereal, but also a cereal with in-game functionality to the market. According to Tom Prata, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President, “We’re always looking for new opportunities to bring smiles to people of all ages, and this is a fun way to kick off the day.”

We couldn’t agree more, and we can’t wait to see what kind of respond Nintendo receives for the Super Mario inspired breakfast cereal.
