How to Unlock Luigi

As we mentioned above, there are often several different ways for you to unlock characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. If you want to unlock Mario’s trusty green friend, Luigi, then you’re going to have a bit of work to do as this character can be a bit of a pickle to unlock, especially early on. Thankfully, there are a few different methods, so take a look to see which one works best for you.

VS Mode

All of the characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate can be unlocked by simply playing VS mode for a long enough period. Every time that you begin a new session, you will be given a chance to face off against a challenger after you play a match in VS mode. Beating this challenger will unlock the character for you, giving you access to them in your roster.

In order to unlock Luigi in VS mode, you’re going to need to continue playing VS mode matches until after you unlock both R.O.B. and Falco, marking Luigi as the 33rd unlock that you can grab in VS mode.

World of Light

If you’re playing through the World of Light mode, then you can unlock Luigi by finding him in the Mysterious Dimension in the World of Dark.

Classic Mode

The quickest way to unlock Luigi by far is to play Classic Mode. While it won’t take nearly as long as World of Light or the VS Mode, you’re still looking at a hefty chunk of time to invest to unlock the character. In order to unlock Luigi you’re going to need to play Classic Mode and then beat Mario, Sonic, Bayonetta, Little Mac, Ike and then finally Luigi.

As you can see, it’s still a few characters to defeat, however, it is a much quicker unlock time than you will find in both World of Light or VS Mode. Now that you know how to unlock Luigi, though, you can dive in and get started. Make sure you also head back over to our Super Smash Bros.
