Nathan’s Humble Beginnings: Uncharted 3

Every adventurer must begin his or her journey somewhere, however we didn’t get the chance to witness Nathan’s origins until the second level of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Here we watch as 15-year-old Nathan enters a museum in Cartagena, Columbia seeking the ring of Sir Francis Drake. As he scours the museum he eventually locates the ring case on the second floor, noting in his journal several objects within the case. This is when he catches a brief glimpse of Sully, with the key needed to open the case. After being tossed out of the museum, Nathan tails Sully down several alleyways and then learns how to utilize cover to remain hidden.

When Nathan catches up to Sully, he spies through a window as Sully gets another key cut, and places this key securely in his wallet. Intent on getting his hands on Sully’s wallet, Nathan agilely navigates rooftops and crowded marketplaces before sneaking up behind Sully and pickpocketing him. Unfortunately, Sully is wise to Nathan the entire time. The two engage in a brief conversation before Nathan tosses the wallet back to Sully, but not without removing the key from it first.

Holy Ship: Uncharted 3

Another outstanding action-packed level from Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception involves Nathan fighting his way off a sinking cruise ship. Nathan must avoid drowning throughout this mission, which leads him to several close calls as the water rises.

This level is sure to get your adrenaline pumping, especially considering all of the dire situations Nathan endures that make you question whether or not he can make it out alive. Fortunately Nathan successfully escapes the sinking ship and swims his way to shore, waking up on the beach next to a watchful vulture.

De Plane!: Uncharted 3

Another death-defying moment in the series takes place in Chapter 17 of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. The chapter begins with Nathan hiding in the cargo bay of a plane. As he makes his way through the ventilation shafts someone detects him. Nate fist fights with his attacker before being thrown from the ramp by loose cargo. As he scrambles back inside he partakes in a shootout with one of Marlowe’s agents before the plane engine catches fire.

A large explosion ensues that rips a giant hole in the side of the plane and sucks out all of Nathan’s attackers, as well as Nathan. As he flies through the air past the flaming wreckage of the plane, he spots a crate with a parachute and grabs hold, using the parachute to land him safely in the middle of the Rub’ al Khali desert.

Off the Tracks: Uncharted 2

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves serves up its share of action – with Nathan Drake desperately hanging on for dear life to a train car dangling over the edge of a cliff. After the train crashes, Nathan wakes to the realization that he’s severely injured, and is given only a few moments to register the severity of his current predicament.

Grabbing onto a loose bar, Nathan hangs precariously from the tail end of the train knowing that one wrong move will send him plummeting to his death. In order to survive, he must vertically scale his way up the side of the dangling train. He barely manages to accomplish this as he works his way through the cold mountainside asking himself, “how can I not be dead?”

Prison Break: Uncharted

The first installment in the series, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune did a remarkable job introducing us to main protagonist Nathan Drake. Nathan’s escape from prison with the assistance of his love-to-be Elena Fisher is one of the most defining moments of the game. Speeding off in a high-speed car chase through the jungle, Nathan operates a turret and fends off several guards in pursuit while Elena swiftly drives them away from danger.

When it looks like they’ve successfully escaped, they’re confronted once again by Eddie, who wants the map in Nathan’s possession. It’s clear Nathan isn’t just going to hand it over, and when Eddie cocks his shotgun to show he’s not playing around, Nathan makes the quick decision to reverse back into the water, stating “looks like you’re going to have to come get it.”

Battle In the City: Uncharted 2

Another fun scene we couldn’t get enough of in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves comes to us in chapters 6 and 7. In this section of the story Nathan and Chloe find themselves fighting their way through a city loaded with enemy forces – including a helicopter that hovers overhead raining down gunfire. Nevertheless, the fortune hunter proves he can handle the situation, blowing the chopper out of the sky and once more barely escaping with his life. This results in an awkward yet hilarious first meeting between Chloe and Elena.

Final Battle and Happy Ending: Uncharted 2

Finally, one of the most memorable moments in the series comes in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, when Nathan, Chloe, and Elena have yet another close call while fleeing a desecrated city. Descending into the Tree of Life, Nathan finally confronts Lazaravic, who drinks the resin and becomes almost immune to gunfire. After Nathan bests Lazaravic he has the opportunity to take him out, however he prefers to let the guardians of Shambhala do the work for him.

After Lazaravic goes down, Shambhala begins collapsing and Nathan must run across a rickety bridge to reach Chloe and Elena. Another final notable moment comes when Nathan and Elena share a kiss in the village following their tormenting.

You can relive these moments in Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection for PlayStation 4.
