1.1 SOME THINGS YOU CAN’T WALK AWAY FROM

Location / Parker Square // May Stadium

Shoot Maurice

Lethal Force Likely

Difficulty:

After a bruised and battered Maurice fails to give up his contacts, it’s time to apply a little more pressure—but not to his throat; that’s been half throttled already. Bring your gun up, and aim it anywhere on Maurice’s form (though the head makes your feelings abundantly clear).

After some forceful language and Maurice’s screaming, press your Shoot trigger. Maurice is reduced to a gibbering wreck, as your pistol has no bullets.

Action: Taking a Swing

Maurice’s whimpering turns to anger when your back is turned. He grabs a baseball bat and brandishes it wildly. You now have an action to complete—perform a takedown:

Press your Attack button to bring out your melee weapon (a telescoping nightstick), and beat Maurice into unconsciousness.

Ignore your Attack button, and you still manage to swiftly bring Maurice down. But in the future, be quicker with these contextual button events!

Examine Maurice’s personal phone for information

Investigation

Difficulty:

Activate your smartphone’s Profiler App, which bathes the screen in augmented reality. Maurice’s details appear almost instantly. The scumbag may be unconscious, but he has a lot more to say. The gang member’s phone grants you two important clues:

The major players in this investigation have brief Audio Logs scattered around the whole of Chicago. You find some during the main missions and some during other missions. Others are scattered across the landscape, waiting to be found. There are 101 in total.

When hacking Maurice’s phone, you discover it is a throwaway device (aka Burner Phone) the criminal uses during his nefarious activities. He has eight of these phones, and finding them all forms the basis of the Burner Phones side mission.

Leave the locker room when ready

Investigation

Difficulty:

You are able to freely maneuver around the locker room. Keep your smartphone out and profiling. As you explore this room, you can:

(Optional): Hack the soda machine; two cans fall out. This is one of many “Fun Hacks”, but you’ll use the clattering of cans to attract foes in other, more dangerous circumstances.

(Optional): Check the locker room thoroughly for crafting items. These appear randomly, and you should gather as many as you can find, in preparation for making projectiles after this mission. Look for items such as Chemical Components, Meds, and other items that show up on your Weapon Wheel.

(Optional): Open a (random) package by tapping your Use Object button. Tap, don’t hold! These bags hold cash to spend.

Locate the blue door and simply walk into it, pushing it open and enabling your escape.

1.2 YOU’LL APPRECIATE THE PLAN TOMORROW

Location / Parker Square // May Stadium

Sneak past the police

Infiltration

Melee Force Likely

Difficulty:

After you meet with Jordi Chin, a lunatic in a sharp suit who’s managed to summon Maurice’s gang affiliates and the Chicago Police to your current location, you instruct him to keep Maurice alive while you attempt to escape the stadium. The police have responded in a most punctual manner.

(Optional) If your Profiler is still active (and it should be), you can scan the corpses Jordi has arranged and see the names and occupations of the lowlifes he’s recently murdered.

There are now multiple ways to complete this next objective:

Overview

First Completion Point: The top of the curved loading bay ramp southwest of your current position.

Dangers: Chicago Police Officers (Veterans x2), with pistols drawn.

Insertion Points

Maintenance Corridor (from the North)

Accessibility Level:

Head through the open mesh gate ahead of you, then creep or run past the pitching machine and around to the pallets just behind the mesh fence. Approach from this loading area. You have an excellent view of the officers’ movements, but you need to act quickly to dispatch them before they raise the alarm.

Maintenance Office (from the Northeast)

Accessibility Level:

Head through the mesh gate ahead of you, then enter the blue door to your left. This leads to an adjacent maintenance office, which has some components and cash to snag. Exit via the door opposite, left of the cute raccoon picture. You benefit from claiming an item and having one officer within easy reach.

Maintenance Corridor (from the East)

Accessibility Level:

Run down the corridor to your left, and crouch behind the pallet by the open mesh gate with the light shining at you. You have a slightly easier and flexible entry point here , though you may need to melee strike a foe quickly if he investigates this corridor..

Progression Plans

You may now try one, parts of, or any combination of the following methods of navigating this area.

General PrePlanning

Cover: Be certain you are familiar with the rudiments of stealth and can quickly crouch and move from corner to corner and cover to cover.

Cameras: Have your smartphone active so you can mark (or profile) the two police officers. Notice items in the environment you can use, especially the two cameras, which you can use to track their movements—be certain you’re hiding first!

Combat: Remember Jordi threw your bullets away, so shooting the police officers isn’t an option yet. But be certain you claim your first collection of bullets from either of the officers if you incapacitate them.

Clambering: Have you read up on Parkour? This is advisable, too.

Passive // Flee: Making Your Escape Subtle

Difficulty:

Crouch behind a pallet in the east corridor entrance. Wait for both officers to pass you, then jog around the pallet, and run to the low concrete wall and fence. Hug it as you head up the ramp, ignoring the police completely.

(Alternate) Rush through the east corridor, and hide behind the pallet stack closest to the wall shelves. Next, seek cover near the large pillar at the ramp’s base. Parkour over the ramp railing and escape; this is trickier, as you need to leap just as the officers pass by.

Aggressive // Stealth: Hitting a Double

Difficulty:

Crouch out of sight, waiting until both officers stop moving. Then approach the one closest to the maintenance office, ideally from behind. Before he shouts the alarm, take him down with a quick press of your Melee button. Move swiftly behind the second officer, who is inspecting the dead gangbanger to the ramp’s right. Execute him with a swift melee takedown. The benefit of this plan is that you can collect dropped ammunition and cash. Then run up the ramp.

Aggressive // Smart: Attracting Trouble

Difficulty:

You’re fortunate that there are two hacking opportunities to help your progress. The first is the pitching machine, which attracts the first officer. Simply approach from behind and melee strike, or you can run past him. In addition, one of the gangbangers dropped a phone close to the floor grating, near the pallet stack by the van. While hiding, hack this so it plays a strange sound that causes one officer to investigate. This allows you to more easily move around him or strike him from behind.

To conclude your clandestine maneuvering, attempt your first spot of Parkour at the top of the ramp by using your Vault and Climb button. You can climb the mesh gate or vault up and over the metal refuse container.

1.3 LURED TO THE LOUNGE

Location // May Stadium

Hack the camera

Follow the data flow line to its source

Unlock the door

Reach the upper level

Infiltration

Data Hack

Difficulty:

Overview

Completion Point: The top of the escalator, at the entrance to the VIP lounge. Then move through the food court, past the lounge bar, to the souvenir counter.

Dangers // Lower Souvenir Court: Three Chicago Police Officers (Gunman, Veteran x2).

Dangers // Upper VIP Lounge: Five Chicago Police Officers (Veteran x5).

The double doors at the top of the steps are locked. Bring out your Profiler, and you’ll see a data flow running above the doors. The key to unlocking these doors lies in the lower food court mezzanine, but you can’t reach that area yet. However, you can access the camera above and left of the door. Hack the security camera to update the objective. Then move the camera so you can see through the open grating above the doors. Hack into the subsequent camera, inside the lower level.

Pan the camera around, following the flow, then access a second camera above the souvenir sign. Now mark the police officer in the middle of the lower stand area. Cycle through to the last camera above the escalator on the mezzanine pillar. Wait for two officers to appear and mark them; then hack the console switch below them, and unlock the door you’re standing next to.

Use a lure to distract the guard

Throw lure to the designated area

Reach the upper level

Infiltration

Data Hack

Melee Force Likely

Difficulty:

Lower Court: Progression Plans

(Mandatory) After a curt conversation with Jordi, you automatically duck behind a counter. Take the Electronic Partsfrom the counter surface; this is a key crafting component in the creation of your first projectile, the lure. Follow the onscreen instructions; bring up your Weapon Wheel and select the Lure icon. Then craft the item (this occurs instantly) and close the Weapon Wheel with the lure selected.

Note the lure in your screen’s bottom-left corner, showing the crafted item you’re carrying and the number carried. Now hold down your Throw button, so a throwing arc is visible, and line it up with the target. Release to throw. Once the lure sticks to the wall, hack it (it says “Attract”). The officer takes the bait, walking over to the source of the strange noises emanating from your lure.

Your route is clear: You need to navigate to the top of the escalator without being seen. Try any of the following plans:

Passive // Flee: On the Go

Difficulty:

Scoot down behind the cover of the concessions table as the officer inspects your handiwork. Crouch in cover and move to the side of the officer, around the stack of boxes, and quickly run up the escalator.

Passive // Flee: Side Scaffold Row

Difficulty:

(Optional) Or, once you’re at the escalator, you can try some Parkour. Use the scaffolding on either side of the escalator to clamber up to the mezzanine and to the completion point.

Aggressive // Stealth: A Low Blow

Difficulty:

Discharging your pistol simply fails your mission. But you can come up behind the officer (either go around the concession stand or vault over it) and whack him. Be swift!

Lounge Bar: Progression Plans

It’s only 23 meters between the VIP lounge double doors and your next waypoint, but the number of officers has increased, and so has their aggression against some of the patrons. Watch your step!

Passive // Smart: View from Afar

Difficulty:

Learn the lounge’s layout by profiling all of the bar patrons and the five officers, ideally from a crouching position behind the bar. From here, you can:

(Optional) Access the security camera, check information on many of the patrons, and “tag” all five officers.

(Optional) Locate the infamous Joseph DeMarco, the business manager for “Lucky” Quinn. See the Collectors Edition of this guide for more information on these power players.

(Optional) Listen in as one of the officers roughs up a patron. His girlfriend is suitably impolite, but the altercation doesn’t escalate, possibly because everyone is filming it with their smartphones!

(Optional) Hack one of the lounge patrons targeted in a blue diamond. This is the first time you can hack into a citizen’s phone and retrieve a reward (usually bank account details). See the Training chapter for more details on these types of hacks.

Once you’re done, use the next tactic:

Passive // Flee: Behind the Bar

Difficulty:

If you head along this route without pausing, you’re likely to encounter officers moving into the lounge from the waypoint. When the officers’ backs are to you, swiftly move to cover behind the bar pillar, past the saloon doors, and to the waypoint.

Passive: Parkour So Bizarre

Difficulty:

You can creep behind the bar, then through the saloon doors and by the bar servers’ feet. Vault over and head to the waypoint. This is very tricky (though not impossible) to do without being spotted.

Aggressive // Stealth: Attempting to Spar

Difficulty:

Strike any officers with melee attacks only, and make sure other officers aren’t watching or they’ll catch you. Try sneaking behind the trio after moving behind the bar; bringing them down without being seen is insanely difficult.

You’re also able to reach the waypoint, stop and turn round, wait for the officers to drift apart in their patrol routes to the mezzanine and lower food court, and stalk them one at a time (or melee strike one next to another if you’re extremely fast with both takedowns). This takes a while and is very dangerous. If anyone sees you, you’re dead!

1.4 YOU’RE SO HIGH MAINTENANCE

Location / Parker Square // May Stadium

Find and hack the officer with the access code

Hack into the stadium’s network

Create a blackout

Data Hack

Difficulty:

Move along the souvenir counter. You make a quick call to one of your hacker associates, Badboy17, requesting a big distraction. You’re told to find a security guard with access to the server room. Hack the security camera through the locked glass doors of the trophy room, which is guarded by two officers.

Hack the second camera across the room from the first, listening as a third cop talks to the stadium’s security officer about an evacuation plan. Point the camera directly at the two of them, then hack to claim the security officer’s access code. Your objective updates.

Hack the building security router within the trophy room. Your view shifts to the ctOS server room, where a vulnerability is detected. Simply unlock and hack, and you receive the necessary hack to plunge the entire stadium into darkness.

Open the Weapon Wheel, just as you did to create the lure, and select the Blackout, which normally requires a perk to craft. With it selected, activate the Blackout hack and watch the panic through the windows!

1.5 LIGHTS OUT

Location / Parker Square // May Stadium

Location / Parker Square // May Stadium /// Sway San Bar

Escape the stadium

Infiltration

Melee Force Likely

Difficulty:

Overview

Next Completion Point: Head through the trophy room, down an escalator, to a bar entrance.

Dangers // Trophy Room: Three Chicago Police Officers (Veteran x3).

Trophy Room: Progression Plans

The initial route is recommended, although there are other, increasingly violent ways to entertain yourself on the way out of the stadium:

Passive: Home, Run

Difficulty:

Enter the double doors and creep left, moving to the pillar at the far end, near a waiting officer. When he moves away, quickly descend the escalator and race past the concession stands to the exit.

Aggressive // Stealth: More Trophies, for Fun

Difficulty:

You can always maneuver around the right trophy cabinets or take a path up the middle between the rows, but this almost always results in a takedown. If you must drag a cop down for a melee strike, creep around the case rows and grab the one who is alone. Then wait for the other two to split up and drag the others down one at a time. This takes time and patience.

Aggressive // Violence: Scoring a Triple...Homicide

Difficulty:

If you hate Chicago’s finest enough to batter them with your nightstick, you can do this if you’re incredibly quick and no other officers spot you during each takedown. Then flee before the alarm is raised. This is incredibly difficult to achieve unless you pick the lone cop near the escalator first.

Just before you enter the bar, Jordi calls you to say he’s left a preowned car in a garage across from the stadium. Take it if you want it. Now saunter through the Sway San bar like you own the place. The usual distractions (e.g., the slot machine) are not available, though you can buy a beer when the electricity is restored. However, you’ve more important plans...such as escaping. Head to the door and step outside. You’re just in time to hear the police dispatcher raise the alarm.

1.6 AVOIDING THE PO-PO IN PARKER

Location / Parker Square // May Stadium /// Sway San Bar

Location / Parker Square // Owl Motel (Objective)

Leave the police search area

Escape the police

Foot Chase

Vehicle Chase

Lethal Force Likely

Difficulty:

Overview

Completion Point: Lose the cops and locate the Owl Motel to the southwest of Parker Square.

Dangers: Chicago Police Officers and vehicles (number differs depending on your actions).

General PrePlanning

Movement: It’s important to keep moving during the initial stages of your escape. Simply hiding in the bar or milling about on the steps of the stadium gets you spotted and sometimes killed.

Freedom: You have the entire city of Chicago to explore, so you can ignore any or all of the tactics presented below. You only need to reach the Owl Motel if you want to continue Act I. However, it’s worth completing this mission (and a couple of additional ones) to fully unlock your Skill Points and other potential benefits.

Warning Signs: Your minimap shows approaching police vehicles (flashing diamonds) and police on foot (red circles with direction arrows). Underneath is a Police Warning meter, and it’s your job to remove it from your HUD. The larger gray circle is the search area mentioned in the objective; you need to head out of it before being spotted, if you can. Consult the Training chapter for more information.

Driving: This is your first driving opportunity, and learning how best to navigate the road is a must. There’s many salient points to remember. Consult the Training chapter for more information.

Progression Plans

The cops are out in force tonight, and this won’t likely be your last brush with them. But there are cunning methods to avoid or interact with them:

Passive // Flee: Out for a Stroll

Difficulty:

If you thought about ignoring any vehicle to aid in your escape, think again: You can run the perimeter of the stadium, dash into alleys, and hide behind fences or among the milling pedestrians, but you don’t complete this objective until you exit the search area. Walking there is possible (head roughly south, staying off major roads where police vehicles are patrolling), so you’re at least traveling toward your mission-critical destination.

Driving // Defensive: The Correct Car to Jack

Difficulty:

Jordi’s Zusume R: Sprint out of the bar, staying to the left and dropping down to the base of the steps. Rush across the side road to the alley where Jordi’s car icon appears. Step through the door into the garage, and fire up the Zusume R, arguably the best vehicle available! This is the preferable method of escape. Don’t be too quick to dart out of the garage; wait for any patrols to pass by first.

Difficulty:

Bogen 200: Sprint out of the bar, turning left or heading straight out and down the steps. Take either of the two parked Bogen 200 cars. Though they have lawn-mower engines, each is quite nippy and ideally suited for weaving through the tight streets and alleys.

Defensive Escaping: Bring up your main map and plot a GPS course to the Owl Motel (even if the Objective symbol on the map hasn’t appeared yet). This enables you to see a rough route, which you don’t need to stick to; in fact, you need to shake the police before you head there. With defensive driving—darting into side alleys and checking the minimap to spot and avoid incoming police—you’re usually able to easily foil your pursuers. Continue this defensive driving until you’re out of the search area.

Driving // Offensive: A Provoked Attack

Difficulty:

You’re outgunned and outmatched by Chicago’s police department; so you may be tempted to cause as much destruction is possible: For example, hole up in the side alley north of the stadium (perhaps the one with Jordi’s Zuzume R in it) and attempt to bring down the police with headshots, escaping during a gap in the carnage. You might want to steal a police car, run over pedestrians and cops, making a nuisance of yourself. But this is extremely unwise, and there is no real advantages to this. You don’t receive XP, any extra time, you lose Reputation, and your Heat level rises. So avoid police confrontation wherever possible.

Simply head south towards your waypoint, and if the police begin to chase, hack the Traffic Lights at any major intersections when the button hint flashes blue; do this as you pass through the lights, so the cops chasing you are snarled up in cross-traffic.

1.7 YOUR UNCLE’S A DIFFERENT KIND OF PERSON

Reach your hideout

Infiltration

Difficulty:

Shaken off the police? Then follow your GPS, or the minimap, to your destination. Be sure you aren’t using the sidewalks and mowing down pedestrians, as that simply results in the police appearing again. Park at the motel, head up the steps and along the walkway to your apartment, and enter it.

Step into the apartment. After viewing a touching scene between your sister and nephew, Aiden stares at the apartment wall adorned with masses of paper—clippings of newspapers linking a picture of a small girl clutching a fluffy lamb. What is all this about? He clearly shows his frustration at the wall before receiving a more encouraging call from Badboy17. The mission concludes.

You can inspect your apartment, but first, open up your Skills Tree by accessing your smartphone. Apply the Skill Points you’ve earned to your Combat, Driving, or Hacking improvements.
