As you explore the different areas and zones in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, you’re going to come across several Treasure Troves that you won’t be able to open upon first finding them. That’s where the Lockpicking Field Skill comes in handy. Unfortunately, this skill isn’t available right off the bat, but don’t worry, we’ll explain how to get the lockpicking skill, as well as how to use it to pick locks in Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
How to Get Lockpicking
As we outlined above, acquiring the Lockpicking Field Skill is definitely something you’ll want to do, and there are several different Blades that have access to this Field Skill. Since this skill is required to open Treasure Troves, you will need to find the six Blades that have this Field Skill included in their abilities. We’ve already outlined how to get all rare Blades, so be sure to check out that article for details on how to get all of these Blades.
It will take you a while to find a Blade with the Lockpicking skill. As we said, there are a total of six Blades that you can acquire with this skill. We’ve outlined them below, as well as included short details about how to unlock them.
- Pandoria – Unlocked in main story.
- Roc – Unlocked n main story.
- Poppi QT – Unlocked by progressing through the main story.
- Kos-Mos – Bond obtained from a random Common, Rare, or Legendary Core Crystal.
- Kora – Bond acquired from a random Common, Rare, or Legendary Core Crystal.
- Sheba – Blade Bond formed from the Inherited Core Crystal, which can be purchased from a Torigoth Vendor for 500,000 Gold.
As you can see, there are three Blades which can be obtained through simply playing the main story campaign. These are going to be your best bet for getting the Lockpicking skill, as they are guaranteed drops, whereas forming Bonds with Blades from Core Crystals is not guaranteed to give you the Blades that you can acquire from Core Crystals. Finally, the last option—Sheba—is must too expensive for early game endeavors, and it will be a long bit before you can obtain this Blade by purchasing the Inherited Core Crystal.
Once you have the Lockpicking skill, using it is as simple as having that Blade equipped and then approaching a locked Treasure Trove. You’ll be given the option to open it, and you’ll see any other requirements that it has. Once those requirements are met, you’ll be able to unlock the Treasure Trove and dive into the goodies hidden inside.
