Tips for Playing Furi

Think you can take on the bosses awaiting you in the fast-paced Furi?

We’ve got a dry spell of games going on here in the late summer, but one title you shouldn’t miss is Furi. This action game from The Game Bakers features some fast-paced boss battles, as you shoot, evade and slash your way to victory.

Here are some Furi tips that will help you survive the game just a little bit longer – though some good twitch gaming skills would certainly help, too.

Shooting in Furi

First off, you’re able to shoot a continuous stream of laser blasts using the right analog stick. This will enable you to keep striking away at an enemy, even if you aren’t within slashing distance. However, keep in mind that blasts do a minimal amount of energy compared to slashes, though they are the safer way to chip away at a foe in Furi – until they start teleporting closer to you, that is.

Use your shooting tactics when you’re at a good distance from your foe, but don’t expect your shots to be effective all the time. The enemy will occasionally shield themselves, forcing you to get in close to do damage. Watch for them to be surrounded by a yellow disc icon before you move in for attack.

Also, bullets can also stop certain projectiles that the enemies fire at you, such as fireballs. That’s not to say it’ll stop all attacks, however – be prepared to use your dash technique to evade the other incoming projectiles, a helpful Furi tip.

Slashing and Parrying in Furi

When you can’t damage an enemy from afar, that’s when you can move in with slash attacks, which do a greater deal of harm in Furi. However, you shouldn’t always lean on going on the offensive, because the enemy won’t hesitate to strike back. That’s when you should be ready with your parry technique.

As the enemy comes at you, you’ll see them surrounded by a blue circle. This is their striking range. If you’re standing within this range, the enemy can potentially hit you with an attack. Watch for them to go up on the height of their attack, then proceed to hit the parry button. It’s a matter of timing, but this Furi tip will keep your energy from dwindling too quickly. After you practice this a couple of times (particularly with the first boss, who acts as a tutorial – like in the video below), you’ll get the hang of how parrying works.

If you successfully parry an enemy enough, they’ll be open to quick slash attacks. This usually comes at the height of their attack combo, like after the first few hits. Once they’re vulnerable, strike quickly, then use your evade technique to get back out of harm’s way before they have a chance to counter-attack. This is one Furi tip that will keep chipping away at their armor – and keep you in the game as well.

Evading in Furi

The evade technique is one of the most useful abilities you’ll find within the game. You won’t always need to lean on it, but some attacks – mainly with projectiles – simply cannot be countered with a sword. You’ll usually see these with light-up red portions within the circle, usually pointed in your direction.

Your best bet, as you can see from the boss tutorial, is to watch for zones that aren’t lit up in red. Use the analog stick and the evade button to quickly slide into this section, so you can avoid this attack. In some cases, you may actually need to leave the circle entirely, like if the foe is doing a circular attack. Get out, then get back in again and prepare to strike while the iron is hot. Utilizing this Furi tip, you should be able to continue damaging an enemy.

Finally, watch out for patterns. Some of the later bosses in the game are a bit tougher and unpredictable, but each one manages to follow some sort of pattern. You’ll want to see how they attack (using parry and evade whenever you can), and see when they open up on vulnerability. Once they do, prepare to attack however you can, and then repeat the process.

Picking the Right Difficulty in Furi

The game has three different difficulty settings to choose from – Promenade, which acts as an Easy mode; and Furi, which is the general recommended mode. The game suggests you start out with that one, but it’s understood if the game is a little rough. Fortunately, there’s an option available to switch over to Promenade if you find yourself dying too often, so you don’t end up too frustrated.

The final difficulty setting in Furi is, well, Furier. This is a setting that’s best left to experts that have mastered what the game has to offer. We assure you, it’s tough as nails, judging by the video clip below. However, if your twitch gaming skills are in order, you should be able to step up to the challenge.

Good luck, and, hopefully, these Furi tips will go a long way into assuring your survival into the later rounds!
