Dark Souls 3 Anor Londo – Defeat Aldrich, Devourer of Gods

Make your way through Anor Londo to find and defeat Aldrich!

This guide offers a walkthrough of the Anor Londo area in Dark Souls 3, as well as tips to defeat the boss, Aldrich, Devourer of Gods. This area has a few Silver Knights, Deacons of the Deep and Writhing Rotten Flesh enemies to deal with, but overall you should be able to get through it faster than most of the areas you’ve been through up to this point. Along the way you’ll find an Estus Shard, Giant’s Coal, Moonlight Arrows, Proof of a Concord Kept and Aldrich’s Ruby ring.

To begin the area travel to the Anor Londo bonfire found after completing the Irithyll of the Boreal Valley area. Once you’re at the bonfire head up the stairs. Two Silver Knights wait at the top of the stairs and will likely start their attack as you approach. As soon as you see the first one, use a ranged attack to draw it down the stairs so you don’t have to fight them both at the same time. When you reach the top of the stairs, you can go right to find another Silver Knight guarding the Soul of a Crestfallen Knight. However, your path to the boss has you going left.

Kill the Silver Knight if you wish, then collect the Large Soul of a Weary Warrior to the left of the stairs and continue past it. Head up the next small flight of stairs and pick up the Giant’s Coal from the fallen giant ahead. Give this to the blacksmith the next time you’re back at Firelink Shrine.

Continue up the stairs to the very top. If you go right you can circle around to find an item corpse holding six Moonlight Arrows, however you’ll be bombarded by the Deacons on the other side. Instead, head left first to find three Deacons of the Deep on the level below. Approach carefully to avoid the fireballs and take them down. Collect the Proof of a Concord Kept in the corner, then head down the next flight of stairs to find two more Deacons of the Deep.

The area below has a few Writhing Rotten Flesh enemies on the ground, as well as some high up on the ceiling that will drop down. It’s also dark in the room, making it difficult to see them, so be careful as you move around. It’s best to clear the few that are near the bottom of the stairs, then quickly run over to the three Deacons of the Deep who will undoubtedly be shooting fireballs at you.

As you move toward the Deacons a few more Writhing Rotten Flesh will drop from the ceiling, but if you’re moving at a steady pace you don’t have to worry about them falling on you. Clear the three Deacons, then take out any Writhing Rotten Flesh that dropped from the ceiling.

While the boss chamber fog wall is just ahead, before you enter you should open the door on the far side to create a shortcut from the Anor Londo bonfire to this area. However, before you run across the room, look up to the ceiling to see several more Writhing Rotten Flesh and a Deep Accursed enemy waiting for you to approach the door so they can attack from behind. In addition, just past the stairs on the right there’s a chest in the corner that holds an Estus Shard. It can be difficult to see if you’re not right on top of it.

You may have encountered another Deep Accursed in the Cathedral of the Deep, depending on your route to the boss. These are large, spider-like enemies that inflict significant damage and cast a fog that will inflict you with curse. Stand in the fog too long and you’ll become cursed, dying instantly. You can fight this enemy directly if you so choose, but it’s much easier to shoot it down from the ceiling, then move over to the stairs and use ranged attacks to finish off the beast. Kill the Deep Accursed to find Aldrich’s Ruby ring.

However you decide to handle the enemies, make your way to the door on the far side. Pull the lever in the far left corner to open the door, then collect the Moonlight Arrows from the item corpse mentioned before if you haven’t already. At this point you’ve done all there is to do in this area aside from fighting the boss, Aldrich, Devourer of Gods.

Boss Battle: Aldrich, Devourer of Gods

After making your way through the relatively short Anor Londo area, Aldrich can be a difficult opponent to face. If you wait for the boss to attack in an attempt to find an opening to counter attack, you will likely end up dying. It’s best to attack Aldrich as much as possible, and only move away when you see one of his attacks coming.

There are several pillars in the boss battle area. You can use these to avoid many of Aldrich’s magic attacks. In fact, every attack Aldrich uses is magic-based, so a shield will only go so far in this battle. He will shoot two consecutive blasts of magic at you, and occasionally surround himself with small orbs that will loosely track your character. You can dodge these attacks fairly easily, but be careful about using the pillars to avoid the straight blasts as they will go through them and destroy the pillar in the process.

The attack you really need to watch out for is when Aldrich switch to a bow and points it straight up. This indicates that Aldrich is about to fire the bow, raining magic arrows down upon you. The best way to avoid taking damage from this attack is to get as far away from Aldrich as possible before he fires the bow. The attack only lasts a certain amount of time, but it will track you very well and can be difficult to avoid when it catches up to you. Moving away before Aldrich fires gives you time to create a lot of distance so you only have to dodge for a short time before the attack comes to an end.

If you move in close to Aldrich he will attack with his magic sword, but it’s easy enough to move around behind him to avoid it. Once you’ve inflicted enough damage, Aldrich stops moving and creates a damaging mist as he disappears into the ground. Move away before the mist appears to avoid taking damage, then look around the room so you know where Aldrich will appear next.

Once Aldrich is down to 50 percent health, he add fire to his attacks. He surrounds the front of his body with fire and will use fire blasts instead of magic blasts. Circle around the fire to get to Aldrich’s back side, then attack from there. It’s extremely important to watch for the bow attack because it lasts even longer in this phase, making it more difficult to avoid, and you can’t rely on the pillars to keep you safe (assuming any of the pillars are still standing). You need to move away as soon as Aldrich pulls out his bow or you will almost certainly take damage from the attack.

Stay on top of Aldrich as much as possible during this phase because he disappears and reappears frequently. This makes it difficult to pin him down and deal the final blows to finish him off.

Slay Aldrich, Devourer of Gods to obtain Cinders of a Lord and the Soul of Aldrich, then light the Aldrich, Devourer of Gods bonfire. If you’ve already cleared Irithyll Dungeon then you will be teleported to the battle against the Dancer of the Boreal Valley. If not, head to Irithyll Dungeon.

At this point you can move on to Irithyll Dungeon or head back to our Dark Souls 3 walkthrough and guide.
