You can catch a lot of Pokemon out in the wild in Pokemon Go, but Gyarados has been more difficult for people to catch, which is why this guide will cover the best ways to get Gyarados in Pokemon Go. First and foremost, to get Gyarados you’re going to have to work for it. Such a rare Pokemon doesn’t come easy, so be prepared for the hard work ahead.

It’s important to note that Gyarados cannot be obtained from hatching an egg. Even the 10km eggs won’t give you a Gyarados. The only way you can get Gyarados is by evolving a Magikarp into the rare Pokemon. If you have a Magikarp spawn point near you, this is a bit easier. You can always check out our guide on how to find Pokemon anywhere in the world to see if there are any Magikarp nearby.

If you don’t have any Magikarp nearby, you’ll need to hatch one from a 2km egg. There are quite a few Pokemon that can hatch from a 2km egg, which is where that hard work comes into play. Unfortunately, just finding a Magikarp isn’t enough. It takes 400 Magikarp Candy to evolve it into Gyarados, so you need to find as many Magikarp as you can.

Once you’ve gathered a good number of Magikarp, take the one with the highest CP and select that one to evolve. Take all the other Magikarps and give them to the Professor in exchange for more Magikarp Candy. Again, this is not a task you can complete in a short amount of time. It will take some effort to evolve Magikarp and obtain your Gyarados, but it’s well worth the effort as Gyarados is one of the stronger Pokemon, especially if you can’t find Dragonite, Vaporeon or one of the other super strong Pokemon.
